01Chassis Rigidity and Structural Durability
At an unpopulated weight of 13.03 kilograms, the chassis relies on a heavy-gauge metal inner frame and exterior panel assembly engineered to prevent chassis torsion. When assembling massive multi-component systems, structural rigidity becomes a primary failure checkpoint; weak frames buckle under the combined mass of liquid cooling reservoirs, thick radiators, and oversized graphics cards. This chassis exhibits virtually no diagonal chassis flex when stripped of its side panels, retaining the structural resilience that defined fractal meshify 2 xl build quality across heavy-duty workstation deployments.
The light tint tempered glass side panel mounts securely against the steel chassis perimeter, minimizing edge impact hazards during installation and routine servicing. Because tempered glass relies on uniform tension, improper frame squaring can exert lateral pressure against glass mounting contact points, leading to spontaneous panel failure over prolonged heat cycles. The precision-tooled metal margins ensure that thermal expansion from high-draw internal components does not translate into mechanical stress against the glass panel.
Handling and desk placement require deliberate planning given the sheer mass of the enclosure. Once populated with a bottom-mounted power supply, enterprise motherboard, fluid loop, and components, total system weight can readily exceed 20 kilograms. Builders placing the chassis on elevated surfaces or motorized standing desks must account for this localized load. The bottom-mount power supply configuration keeps the center of gravity low, suppressing harmonic vibrations generated by mechanical hard drives and multi-fan intake arrays.
02Cooling Layout and Radiator Clearance Risks
Chassis cooling relies on an open interior layout paired with the signature rockface-inspired mesh front panel, maximizing overall fractal meshify 3 xl airflow across critical processing zones. The interior architecture introduces a dedicated air guide specifically positioned to channel incoming intake drafts around the lower motherboard chamber to improve GPU cooling. This passive ducting helps isolate the graphics card intake zone from radiant processor exhaust, reducing the formation of dead-air thermal pockets within the lower chassis perimeter.
For custom loop fabricators, liquid cooling deployment represents the strongest asset of this platform, though it demands careful geometric planning. The chassis provides space for up to a 420 mm top radiator alongside up to 360 mm front and side radiators. When evaluating the platform for extreme liquid cooling, this generous multi-zone radiator accommodation expands well beyond standard mid-tower bounds. The listing notes support for these multi-radiator footprints, enabling simultaneous primary and secondary heat dissipation zones inside a single enclosure.
However, multi-radiator layouts introduce potential clearance complications that careful builders must anticipate. Installing a thick 420 mm liquid radiator along the top panel severely limits vertical clearance near the upper motherboard edge, which can conflict with tall memory modules, high-profile VRM heat sinks, or EPS 12V power cabling. Furthermore, populating both the front 360 mm and side 360 mm radiator locations simultaneously requires meticulous tubing routing to prevent port collisions, addressing several fractal meshify 2 xl common problems regarding tubing bend radiuses and reservoir clearance in dense dual-loop assemblies.
03Momentum 14 Gen 2 Fan Mechanics and Acoustic Wear
Air movement is driven by three pre-installed Momentum 14 ARGB Gen 2 fans, representing a substantial engineering investment over entry-level case fans. These units utilize Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) fan blades, an industrial-grade material selected for its exceptional dimensional stability and tensile strength. Standard plastic blades tend to stretch or warp slightly over thousands of operating hours under continuous heat exposure, causing blade creep that introduces acoustic droning and reduced static pressure. LCP blades maintain their precise balance and structural shape permanently, ensuring repeatable airflow delivery.
The mechanical longevity of these fans is reinforced by true Fluid Dynamic Bearings (FDB). Traditional sleeve bearings rely on porous oil-soaked metal that gradually dries out and develops rotational play, leading to abrasive chatter and early bearing seizure. True FDB designs utilize a microscopic layer of pressurized fluid that suspends the rotor shaft entirely, preventing metal-on-metal contact during operation. This architecture ensures low fractal meshify 3 xl fan noise profiles over years of continuous operation, making the pre-installed fans suitable for uninterrupted production workloads.
System lighting is handled via integrated Ambience Pro RGB elements and the three ARGB Momentum fans, which are configurable via an intuitive web-based tool as specified in the product documentation. While browser-based control eliminates the need to install bloated, resource-heavy background utility suites on the host operating system, builders should confirm whether their motherboard hardware or local environment permits web-access utilities for low-level lighting adjustments. The electrical connections integrate seamlessly with standard ARGB headers, avoiding proprietary ribbon cable traps.
04Hardware Expansion, GPU Sag, and Internal Ergonomics
The internal expansion space accommodates modern compute components without dimensional compromises. With graphics card clearance extending up to an immense 512 mm, the chassis accommodates any flagship consumer GPU alongside front-mounted fans and radiators without physical interference. However, suspending a modern card of this size horizontally places immense mechanical torque on the motherboard PCIe slot; builders must employ rigid support brackets or vertical reinforcement solutions to mitigate structural PCB deflection over time.
Motherboard compatibility extends natively to Extended ATX (E-ATX) form factors, catering to high-tier creative workstation and dual-socket enthusiast boards. Unlike compact chassis like the Fractal Design Terra mini-ITX desktop case which demand extreme component miniaturization, this full tower grants uninhibited working room around component boundaries. The listing specifies seven internal drive bays, offering expansive room for local storage setups, high-capacity mechanical drives, or solid-state staging arrays needed by creative professionals working with uncompressed media assets.
Front-panel input and output connectivity includes four USB 3.0 ports, offering ample external bandwidth for high-speed peripherals without reaching behind the rear I/O panel. Prospective builders must verify their motherboard specifications prior to assembly: powering four front-facing USB 3.0 ports typically requires two independent 19-pin internal USB 3.0 motherboard headers. If a selected motherboard provides only a single internal USB 3.0 header, two of the front-facing ports will remain unpowered unless the builder sources internal expansion cards or splitter adapters.

EXTRA FANS & FAN CONTROLLER SOLD SEPARATELY!!!I would suggest buying this anyways because fractal sells this case (when I bought it) without the fan controller for 210$, but with the fan controller it’s 280$, but the fan controller sells for 40$. So they’re making you pay…
Solid case. Dramatically lowered temps for cpu and gpu. Tons of room. Great cable management, stock fans are just as quiet as my noctua chromax silent. I couldn’t recommend this more. Worth every penny even though it’s a bit expensive. Quality stuff.
