GoSports vs Spornia Net Comparison
Primary Design
Edge: Tie
The GoSports Elite is a flat hitting mat designed for ground contact practice. It features a 5 x 5 ft octagon shape with integrated tee holes for drivers, irons, and wedges. This setup mimics fairway grass and helps you work on ball-first contact. In contrast, the Spornia SPG-5 is a compact, self-supporting net structure. It stands 5.5 ft high with a protective roof. This design is built for full-swing practice with automatic ball return. You use it to hit balls into the net rather than off a surface. One tool focuses on turf interaction, while the other focuses on containment and retrieval.
Size and Footprint
Edge: Tie
Size matters for your available space. The GoSports mat covers a 60 x 60 inch area. It is flat, so it does not add vertical clearance requirements. You can place it on concrete or turf indoors. The Spornia net is slightly wider and taller. It measures 66 inches in width, length, and height, plus an additional 1 ft roof. This makes it a three-dimensional structure. If you have limited ceiling height, the GoSports mat is easier to fit. If you need a contained area for full swings, the Spornia net provides more vertical protection. Both fit in garages, but the net requires more clearance.
Ball Retrieval
Edge: Spornia SPG-5 Compact Golf Net
Retrieving balls can slow down practice sessions. The Spornia SPG-5 includes an automatic ball return system. The angled base collects balls and rolls them back toward the hitting area. This feature keeps you focused on swing consistency rather than bending down to pick up balls. The GoSports Elite mat has no ball return mechanism. You must manually retrieve every ball after each shot. This mat is designed for ground contact drills, not for catching full swings. If you want to maximize reps per hour without interruption, the Spornia net offers a clear advantage in convenience and workflow efficiency.
Shock Absorption
Edge: GoSports Elite 5×5 ft Golf Mat
Joint strain is a real concern during repetitive practice. The GoSports mat uses a premium EVA foam base. This layer provides superior shock absorption and forgiveness. It helps reduce strain caused by fat shots or thin contact. The non-slip backing keeps the mat firmly in place. The Spornia SPG-5 is a net structure. It does not have a hitting surface with foam padding. You hit into a net, which absorbs impact differently. For drills where you might mishit the ground, the GoSports mat offers better protection for your joints and clubs. The Spornia net protects your gear from stray balls.
Weight and Portability
Edge: Spornia SPG-5 Compact Golf Net
Portability affects how often you move your gear. The Spornia net weighs only 15 pounds. It has a pop-up design that unfolds quickly without assembling tubing. It comes with a carry bag, making it easy to move between the garage, patio, or backyard. The GoSports mat weighs 26.9 pounds. It is heavier and less convenient to transport frequently. However, the mat is more stable once placed. It does not collapse or require setup. If you want to take your practice gear to different locations or store it away easily, the Spornia net is the lighter and more portable option.
